France Carter

Frances Carter is a homeschooled freshman from Portland, Oregon. She began playing violin at age 4, and she currently studies with Simon James. Former teachers include Jan Coleman, Kathryn Gray, and Inés Voglar Belgique. She has been a member of the Portland Youth Philharmonic Association for seven years and is currently a member of the Philharmonic Orchestra. Frances participated in the 2025 Simon-Fiset Competition and the 2025 Seattle Young Artists Music Festival. She has performed for artists and pedagogues including Mimi Zweig, David Perry, Meredith Arksey, and the members of the Aeolus Quartet. She also has studied piano for nine years, currently with Maria Garcia. In her free time, Frances enjoys reading, cooking, and spending time outdoors and with her family. Frances is excited to join Project Prelude and share her love for music with children and to perform and teach in order to expand access to classical music in the greater Portland community.
