Hailey Youn is a 10th grader attending Sunset High School in Portland, Oregon. She began her viola studies at the age of seven and is currently under the teachings of Brian Quincey. She has served as principal viola in the Portland Youth String ensemble and is currently participating in the Philharmonic Orchestra, contributing to the Portland Youth Philharmonic organization for a total of eight years. She also plays viola in the PYP String Quartet and in Camerata PYP. She has participated in the Chamber Music Camp of Portland and the OMEA Ensemble Festival for several years as well. In 2023, she attended the OMEA All-State Honors Orchestra and the 2023 NafME All-Northwest Honors Orchestra. During the summer of 2023, she attended the Brevard Summer Music Festival. While she was attending the camp, she studied with Scott Rawls, as well as played in a masterclass with Matthew Lipman. She also played in a lesson for the president of Curtis, Roberto Diaz. During her time playing in the Brevard Concert Orchestra, she won principal chair viola. She also loves to connect with the community, which led her to start a school club with her sister called “Movement,” a club that travels to several places to spread music to less fortunate people, as well as launching a non-profit called Music4Harmony with her sister and friends. Besides music, Hailey enjoys dancing, hanging out with friends, working out, and volunteering at Stoller MS and Jacob Wismer ES, where she used to attend.
