Ishan Ghosh

Elmonica Division Instructor

Ishan Ghosh is a 17-year-old senior at Westview High School. He started playing the violin in fifth grade and studies with Silu Fei. He joined the Metropolitan Youth Symphony in sixth grade and is now a member of Symphony Orchestra and MYSFits, a conductorless string ensemble that focuses on repertoire primarily outside the Western classical realm. Ishan is a founding member of the Pacific Rose Ensemble, a student-led chamber ensemble, where he plays violin and viola. Ishan is co-president of the Westview String Ensemble Club, which performs at school concerts and community events.

In addition to violin, Ishan plays oboe with MYS and his school’s wind ensemble. As an oboist, he has been accepted into the NafME All-Northwest Honor Band and was the principal oboe of the 2022 and 2023 OMEA High School All-State Orchestras. He placed second at the 2023 OSAA State Solo Championships, was the runner-up in the 2023 MYS Concerto Competition, and has performed in masterclasses for Toyin Spellman-Diaz and Mary Cicconetti.

Ishan began singing Hindustani classical music in second grade and will be joining the Westview Concert Choir this year.

Outside of music, Ishan is co-president of the nationally-recognized Westview History and Quizbowl Club. He can often be found hiking and cycling in the scenic corridors of the Pacific Northwest.

Ishan has been a member of Project Prelude since 2022. He is grateful to give back to the community and connect with students he otherwise would not have had an opportunity to work with. Ishan appreciates seeing the progress they make and the confidence they gain.
