Kaylee Nah

Elmonica Division Instructor & Regional Director Beginning 2024/25 Season


Kaylee Nah, 14, is a freshman at Sunset High School in Portland, Oregon. She has studied the violin under the instruction of Hae-Jin Kim since the age of five. She has also been in the Portland Youth Philharmonic Association (PYP) since 2018. She served as concertmaster of the Portland Youth String Ensemble and principal second violin of the Portland Youth Conservatory Orchestra of PYP. Kaylee is now playing in the Portland Youth Philharmonic orchestra for her third year, and also plays in a PYP sextet and the Camerata PYP chamber orchestra.

Kaylee won first prize in the Grand Metropolitan International Music Competition in 2021. She also won first place in the Jeannette Scott Briggs Scholarship Competition in 2022. In 2023, she performed in the Oregon American String Teachers Association (OR-ASTA) honors recital. In addition, she was the state winner of the Music Teachers National Association Junior String Competition for both the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons. By winning the MTNA Northwest Division, she became a national finalist for the 2023/24 season. Recently, Kaylee served as concertmaster for the 2024 Oregon Music Education Association All-State Symphony Orchestra and was selected as a winner of the Cognizart by MetroArts Inc. Young Artists Debut! Competition.

Kaylee has played for artists Benjamin Beilman, Carol Sindell, and the Modigliani Quartet in masterclasses. She attended the Heifetz International Music Institute in the summer of 2023. Kaylee has also been studying the piano for 9 years with Olivia Kim and has won a number of prizes at Oregon Music Teachers Association festivals. Besides music, Kaylee enjoys painting, baking, and hanging out with friends.

Kaylee strongly believes in serving the community with music. She enjoys connecting with others through performing and teaching at different venues such as retirement homes and libraries. She is excited to serve as Regional Director of the Portland Metropolitan Region.
