Andy Shin

Vice President of Advancement


Andy Shin, age 15, is a sophomore at BASE (The Beaverton Academy of Science and Engineering) High School. At age nine, he began his journey with the cello and has been playing for five years. Since then, Andy has been involved in various ensemble platforms, such as the Portland Summer Ensembles and the Portland Youth Philharmonic (PYP) Organization, where he currently serves as Co-Principal in both PYP and Camerata PYP.

Andy has participated in several competitions; Andy won the 2024 OSAA/OMEA State Solo competition and was titled Oregon’s 2024 cello state champion. His chamber ensemble also placed first in the 2024 OSAA/OMEA state ensemble competition. Additionally, he is a winner of the 2023 MetroArts Young Artist Debut! Competition, and performed a solo with members of the Oregon Symphony Orchestra. Andy achieved second place in the 2023 Eugene Symphony Guild Young Artists Competition and performed a solo with the Eugene Symphony Orchestra. He also earned second place in the 2023 American Protégé International Competition, won the 2022 Baroque Festival, and was a finalist in the 2022 Oregon Mozart Player soloist competition.

Andy was selected to perform at the 2022 ASTA National Conference masterclass. He has also performed in masterclasses with guest artists such as Peter Prosser, Ben Hong, Joshua Roman, David Ying, Ian Swensen, Weicong Zhang, Raúl Gómez-Rojas, Seth Biagini, and Ted Nelson. He has been interviewed by All Classical Portland radio station’s "On Deck With Young Musicians" program. Andy was also selected to participate in the 2023 OrpheusPDX pathway program and performed Mozart’s "The Royal Shepherd" (Il Re Pastore) in the summer of 2023 as a member of the OrpheusPDX company. In the summer of 2024, Andy participated in the 2024 Bowdoin International Music Festival and studied with Jeffrey Zeigler, cello professor at Mannes School of Music.

Currently, he is studying with Maria Shim. Andy enjoys cooking, baking, and hanging out with friends outside of music.


Andy joined Project Prelude in September of 2023 and has served as the Vice President of Advancement since June 2024. He has also received a merit honor; The Musicians of Project Prelude Chair for Artistic Service to the Community, from Project Prelude. Andy is very excited to share his love for music and music education in the community.
