Project Prelude Announces 2023/24 Season

Project Prelude’s 2023/24 season, announced today, brings the launch of landmark initiatives, and the beginning of the organization’s national future. Eight years past Project Prelude’s 2016 launch, the 2023/24 season marks a vivid new chapter of artistic growth and innovation for the organization.

Executive and Artistic Leadership

Appointed in May 2023 as Project Prelude’s next Musical Director, violinist and Mountainside High School senior Ryan Jun will join Executive Director Derek Choi to lead Project Prelude through the 2023/24 season. Previously serving as Director of the Raleigh Park Division (Portland Metropolitan Region), Ryan is driven by the belief that music has the potential to positively impact the lives of individuals and communities, and seeks to expand the dynamic reach of Project Prelude in the coming season.

Artistic Regions

The 2023/24 season sees the launch of the New York Metropolitan Region, sparking a new era of national growth for Project Prelude. With soon-to-be announced divisions serving Long Island, New York, the region will be led by Regional Director Aiden Chantemsin and Assistant Regional Director Angela Zhang, and will operate with a team of 13 musicians.

The Portland Metropolitan Region, having recently announced Claire Youn as its Regional Director, will continue its long-running partnership with the Beaverton School District, with programs serving over 80 students at Elmonica and Raleigh Park Elementary Schools. With the recent appointment of nine new instructors, the region will operate in the 2023/24 season with a team of 19 musicians.

Coda Fellowship Program

Project Prelude continues its partnership with the Back to BACH Project in the second season of the Coda Fellowship Program. Building on the success of the pilot program in spring 2023, young artists will continue to be coached by highly trained Back to BACH and Project Prelude mentors this coming spring.

Crescendo Masterclasses

The Crescendo Masterclasses launch in the 2023/24 season as a joint program of Project Prelude and the Monday Musical Club of Portland. Masterclasses begin in January 2024, and will feature high school musicians from the Portland Metropolitan area.

Community Concerts

The Community Concert Series returns this season with vibrant programs of classical music at the brand-new Patricia Reser Center for the Arts in Beaverton, Oregon. Envisioned as a world-class arts and entertainment destination, The Reser houses a 550-seat theatre, a public art gallery, a pedestrian-centric lobby and arts plaza, and an experimental performance lab, where the Community Concerts will take place.
